A few thoughts on my experience of being on TV

Never would I have ever thought when I started photography and sharing pictures that I would one day be featured on TV!  So it was kind of a surreal experience when I was selected to be KSL’s “Blog of the Week“. (For you non-Utahn’s KSL is an NBC affiliate local news station.) In true fashion, as a mother, my morning trying to get out the door was absolute mayhem compared to most days. It’s like subconciously the children know Mommy has something really important to get ready for and they think to themselves “in order to keep her here at home with us, we are going to wreak the biggest havoc she’s ever seen!” I will spare you the details of that though. 😉 Thankfully my husband was there to rescue me and I made it out the door (only) 10 minutes after I wanted to.

When I got to the station, everyone was super nice! I walked in, they put a mic on me, and told me where to stand/sit. They were doing a story about the vatican and what’s going on with the Pope. I thought for sure that they would go to a commercial break and then have me on. Scott came up to me and said “How do you pronounce your last name?” and I said “It’s like the vegetable.” He smiled and repeated it back to me. People always want to pronounce it like “peace” instead of “peas”. So if you have been pronouncing it “peace”, now you know! It’s peas like the vegetable with an E on the end. Anyway, he then sat down, and we were on! I was a little taken by surprise and flubbed the first question. “uhh..uhhh…uh…” Just kidding it wasn’t quite that bad. I had zero prep at all. Thankfully I can think quickly and only said about half a dozen “ummm”s, and hopefully didn’t have too terrible of a Utah accent.

Here’s me right before I went on. I didn’t bring my big camera because it’s too big of a responsibility so my cell phone had to make due.

Someone needs to write a blog called “how to look good on TV cameras” because holy all that is in heaven above if a regular camera adds 10lbs like they say (which sometimes it does, and I try to make it not for my clients), then the High Def TV camera makes you add at least 100! hahaha I was telling my mom “Well, at least when people meet me in person, they’ll be pleasantly surprised instead of the other way around!”  I cannot stand it when girls fat talk so that is all I will say about that. But it makes me think “Can you imagine truly how skinny Taylor Swift and LeAnne Rhymes are, and probably how very average sized Adele and Kelly Clarkson look in person!”

Anyway, it was a great experience and everyone was super nice at the station. KSL rocks. And I am so thankful for the family and friends that I have and how supportive they have been and they have been so helpful and happy for me and my 3 minutes and 3 seconds of (local) fame. 🙂

I don’t know why the imbedded video is so small, I am not computer savvy so click play and click to make it full screen, or here is the link to view the video on KSL’s site. CLICK HERE
